Life has been moving fast lately.
Between motherhood, nonprofit work, community events, meetings, and everything in between, I’ve realized how easy it is to move from one milestone to the next without taking a moment to simply pause and reflect.
A few weeks ago, I had the honor of receiving the Community Impact Award from the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on African American Affairs. It was a beautiful and unexpected reminder to stop for a moment and appreciate the journey.
As I stood there, I couldn’t help but think about where it all began.
Long before I understood what nonprofit work was, I was simply helping where I could. I wasn’t thinking about awards or recognition. I was just following what felt right and saying yes whenever I had the opportunity to serve.
Looking back, it’s incredible to see how those small moments have grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
One thing this season has reminded me is that we’re often so focused on what’s next that we rarely take the time to acknowledge how far we’ve come. I’m guilty of that. As soon as one project ends, I’m already thinking about the next one.
This recognition gave me permission to slow down, even if only for a moment, and appreciate the people, experiences, and community that have made this journey possible.
To everyone who has volunteered, partnered with me, supported the work, attended an event, donated, or simply believed in the vision, thank you. None of this happens alone, and I’m grateful to be surrounded by people who continue to show up for our communities.
This award is certainly something I’ll cherish, but more than anything, it serves as a reminder that the journey continues.
And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Here’s to whatever comes next.
