Why I Love Vera Doyle

I met Lori, the owner of Vera Doyle, in the summer of 2023 while getting ready for ITAVFoundation’s back-to-school drive. She had just opened her boutique in Mount Airy, and after I dropped flyers in the area, she reached out and asked how she could help. Without hesitation, she offered to collect school supplies at her shop to support local families—and that was the beginning of something beautiful.

Vera Doyle, located at 7118 Germantown Ave in Philadelphia, is one of those places that just feels good to walk into. It’s a warm, creative gift shop filled with handmade items, home goods, jewelry, and art—mostly made by Black, brown, and women creatives. You can feel Lori’s love and eye for detail in every corner.

Lori named the boutique after her mom, Vera Doyle, to honor her style, grace, and individuality. And honestly, it’s the perfect name. The store reflects all of that and more. It’s full of joy, personality, and community spirit—just like Lori herself. She’s one of the most outgoing and kind people I’ve met. She’s the kind of woman who makes you feel seen and welcome right away.

Since that first connection, Lori has remained a strong community partner and a true supporter of our work at ITAVFoundation. Whether it’s hosting creative workshops, collaborating with other local brands, or simply showing up for the community, Lori and Vera Doyle are a bright light in Philly.

The store has also been getting some well-deserved love lately—named a Silver Winner in The Philadelphia Inquirer’s “Philly Favorites” and featured in Visit Philly’s Legacy & Love campaign. It’s a beautiful thing to see Black women being recognized for building meaningful businesses and spaces rooted in love.

If you’re ever in Mount Airy, make sure you stop by Vera Doyle. Pick up a gift, a candle, a journal—or just go soak in the vibes and say hello. Supporting Black-owned businesses like Lori’s is about more than shopping—it’s about community, connection, and showing love back.
