Things I Learned During My 28-Week Ultrasound Appointment
Pregnancy is truly wild. The things our bodies go through to bring life into the world are nothing short of incredible—and sometimes a little shocking.
Since finding out about Eris’s enlarged left kidney during my anatomy ultrasound, I’ve been going in for checkups every 4 weeks. At my 28-week appointment, here are a few things I learned:
Your placenta can block your cervix 😳 ( I did not know this could happen)
This condition is called placenta previa, and it can cause complications during delivery. If the placenta is covering the cervix, vaginal birth might not be an option.C-sections might be necessary with placenta previa
If your cervix is blocked, your doctor will likely recommend a C-section to ensure a safe and smooth delivery for both you and baby.Anterior placenta = less movement?
If your placenta is positioned at the front of your uterus (called an anterior placenta), it can cushion the baby’s kicks—making movement harder to feel.
Mine’s anterior, but… clearly no one told my daughter that. She’s already showing out in there—punching, kicking, and flipping like the little powerhouse she is. I feel everything. No issues on that front!
The good news? My cervix is clear, Eris is still active and growing, and we’re keeping a close eye on her kidney.
Pregnancy continues to teach me how strong, capable, and straight-up magical our bodies are. If you’re navigating this journey too—take it one day, one breath, one kick at a time.
