Black-Owned Businesses: A Look Back and a Fresh Start
Over the past ten years, I’ve had the honor of conducting interviews and writing reviews about Black-owned businesses — sharing stories of creativity, determination, and purpose. When my website was hacked last year, I lost a lot of that work. At first, I was devastated. But in retrospect, it gave me a chance to pause and reflect — to revisit some of the incredible businesses I’d featured over the years.
Since then, I’ve realized just how much things have changed. Some of those businesses have closed, some have grown beyond what they imagined, and others have simply evolved into new ventures. It’s a reminder that entrepreneurship, especially within our community, is a living journey — full of lessons, pivots, and resilience.
I haven’t written about any new businesses since my last post featuring Vera Doyle — which, sadly, has now closed. But over the last three years, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with and supporting a new wave of Black-owned businesses — entrepreneurs who are redefining what ownership and community impact look like today. I’m excited to start sharing their stories soon.
If you’re a Black entrepreneur building with purpose and passion, I’d love to learn more about your business. You can now submit your business directly through the form on my site for a chance to be featured.
Please note: Business Spotlights are based on firsthand or in-person experiences, to ensure each feature reflects authentic connection and lived insight.
