As a business consultant, I find that many entrepreneurs and small businesses do not have a clear understanding of their brand. Understanding your brand goes far beyond color scheme, your logo and social media posts. Although those things are great and they are a part of your brand, that is not the core of your brand.

Ask yourself,

  • Do you have a clear description of why you do what you do?
  • Who are your competitors and why are they successful?
  • How will you stand out from the competition?
  • Do you know your audience? Who are you trying to reach? How will you reach them?

Taking the time to understand why you want to be a business owner or become an entrepreneur is an important key to your success. Understanding and clearly articulating the strategy behind your brand is the most important step in marketing. But it is often overlooked hence the reason why many businesses fail.

No matter what your business is, it is important to have a plan and have a solid foundation.

  • What is your mission?
  • What are your core values?
  • What are the products or service you’re offering?
  • Are you able to describe what type of business you have?
  • How will you serve your customers/clients and what impact do you want to make?

Think about these questions and write down your answers. Having a rough outline of your brand will help you understand your brand and define your brand strategy.
