It’s never going to be easy but it is necessary.

I love helping others develop their brand and providing them with more clarity when it comes to their brand’s identity. However, I had to realize one of my clients was not quite ready for my services.

I was doing their legwork for them, laying the foundation and trying to build their brand for them. They were lazy and didn’t think our meetings were important enough to attend them to the point they barely, sometimes didn’t respond to my emails. It was becoming draining and I was doing too much.

I was doing work I wasn’t even being paid for, helping with administrative tasks and helping them with non-brand development- related tasks. I soon realized that I was spending too much time trying to help the client understand the importance of brand identity and strategy.

I started realizing that I was doing too much and scaled our 6 month contract down to three but as we entered the second month, I realized that I could not keep going with our agreement. I had to terminate our contract.

No amount of money was worth the stress I felt.

Because of this, I had to revamp my service structure and availability.

I made sure to send a written agreement which aligned with the terms and conditions of our agreement that I was taking my business in a different direction starting 2023. We were able to end our agreement in a peaceful and amicable way.

As a consultant, if you find that engaging with a client is more draining instead of stimulating because they don’t have the capacity to really benefit from your services, you have to learn when to walk away.
